Hello! I’m Gordon, the name behind Wee Trails. I grew up roaming Scotland with my family and now I share those journeys through writing, photography, and drone footage. This blog is simply about exploring Scotland and showing what makes it special.

my love for Scotland

more about me

I grew up just outside Glasgow, with parents who were obsessed with seeing every corner of Scotland. While other families booked flights abroad, we packed the car for long drives to Skye, Dornoch, Inveraray, Tiree, and plenty more.

As a kid I moaned about wanting a “real holiday” somewhere sunny, but those trips stayed with me. Looking back, they planted the roots of everything I love about Scotland today. It’s only in the last few years that I’ve properly realised how much this country means to me.

Regular trips to Tiree have been the real spark. There’s something about the ferry journey, the beaches, and the slow pace of the island that makes me appreciate Scotland in a way I never did before. It’s the kind of place that reminds you why travelling close to home can be every bit as special as going abroad. Not to knock on going abroad at all, I will still continue to do that too.

Most of my knowledge has come from being out and about, endless drives, ferry crossings, walks, and my Dad’s constant habit of dropping bits of history into the conversation. The scenery is what pulls me in most. Scotland has views that can rival anywhere in the world, and half the joy is discovering them for yourself.

These days, I share my love for Scotland through writing, photography, and videography. I’ve picked up a drone over the past year, giving me another way to capture the places I visit. My blog has become the outlet for tying my professional skills in digital marketing with my passion for travel. I’m still at the beginning of my travel journey compared to some, but that’s part of it. Scotland keeps giving me new places to uncover, and I’m proud to call it home.
